It’s cheese ball season once again here at C+C, and this year we want to open up the cheesy festivities to all our readers. So Colleen and I are excited to announce the first Cheese and Champagne Cheese Ball Invitational! Throughout the month of December, we’ll post cheese ball recipes, stories and photos that you submit. All cheese lovers, regardless if you have a blog, are welcome to join us! Contact us at mncheese [at] gmail [dot] com or dccheese [at] gmail [dot] com with your submissions, and we’ll happily share them with the C+C community.

For inspiration, check out the post from Monday about the creation of the turducken of cheese balls, a truly amazing cheese spheroid if there ever was one. That reminds us: if your cheese ball is not an original recipe — and it doesn’t have to be — please be sure to credit the source in your submission. We don’t like it when others steal our ideas (or posts or photos), so in the spirit of the season, let’s make sure we give the same respect to our fellow cheese culinarians.

Bloggers, if you post your cheese balls on your own site, please share your creations using the widget below. (And please be sure to include a link back to the 2011 Cheese Ball Invitational.)

We’re excited to see your favorite cheese ball recipes, and we’ll also be offering our favorite cheesy holiday treats over the course of the month. Come back often for cocktail and cheese pairings, holiday cheese plates, cheesy apps and sides, and cheese-centric gift ideas. Of course, there will be plenty of bubbly as well. Cheers to cheese!

Love this idea. When the cheeseball fervor began a few weeks back, I found myself thinking, ugh, not the dreaded cheeseball. It’s a really fun concept to play with and quality cheese makes ALL the difference. Thanks for getting me to rethink the lowly cheeseball.

Thanks @CheeseChick for joining in! Glad we could help bring about another cheeseball epiphany. 😉

Missed this year, but will join in next! Just made a Belle Chevre Shrimp Cheese Ball rolled in Herbed Pecans that was mighty tasty!

There’s still plenty of time to join in the fun, fromagechick. Please submit your recipe!

Hey! Thanks for inviting me to this. It looks like your linky thing is closed for submissions — sorry I missed it!

We got you in, Tina. No worries!

I wish I’d known about this earlier. I made cheese balls as gifts this year, and invented a really good recipe: goat cheese, parmesan and marinated artichokes rolled in toasted pine nuts.

Hi Dana,
Please send us the recipe anyway! We’d love to see it.

Here in Mexico, and especially down south, for the holidays there are one kilo cannonballs of Gouda in red wax. The Mexicans (after removing the wax) cut off the top, hollow it out, stuff it with (usually) a meat filling, then bake it until it is soft and barely holds it’s shape, then cover it with a chile-tomato sauce (usually) and serve it with tortillas, nacho chips, crudites, bread, etc. Fantastic, and probably the original cheese balls.

Sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing your tradition with us, badfrog. We’d love to see a photo of this kind of cheese ball.
