NASFT and the specialty food trade loves its fancy cheese, and for good reason. Before we get to the award winners, a shout out to our favorite hometown chef, José Andrés, who called out the USDA in his keynote speech for banning unpasteurized cheeses while allowing unlabeled GMOs. “The way we eat today is a political statement,” he said. We couldn’t agree more, Chef.
It was a clean sweep for Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery at last night’s sofi Awards at the NASFT Summer Fancy Food Show. Allison Hooper and her team won three awards: Best Cheese or Dairy Product — Bonne Bouche; Best Perishable Product — Cultured Butter with Sea Salt Crystals; and the grand prize of sorts, Best Overall Product Line.
We couldn’t get enough of their cultured butter and loved the 1-ounce mini logs — perfect for tucking into one’s purse, not that we’d do such a thing….
Other dairy winners include Rogue Creamery Flora Nelle for Best USDA-Certified Organic Product, the adorable Vermont goats behind Big Picture Farm Farmstead Goat Caramels for Best Confection, and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Lemon Frozen Yogurt for Best Dessert. Our cheers to all!

I didn’t steal any butter – though I totally wanted to.
Lovely write-up. I have been staring down that cultured butter at the market. Must try.
You could eat it with a spoon – it’s that amazing.
