Union Market, the District’s newest foodie gathering spot, officially opened this past weekend. Not all vendors are fully up and running, but Righteous Cheese is opening its bar this evening.
Stop in Friday, Saturday or Sunday for fromager Carolyn Stromberg’s yes, righteous cheese and beverage pairings. (Union Market is only open weekends until the rest of its vendors are in place.) You can round out your meal with Rappahannock River Oysters and Peregrine Espresso. (The foodie tots and I took a sneak peak inside the market back in July; EatMore DrinkMore has more recent photos.)
Union Market is a development by Edens, which is also in the process of opening a food and retail center in Merrifield, Va., called the Mosaic District. There, MOM’s Organic Market opens this weekend, where you can find local, glass bottled milk from dairies like Trickling Springs, and an ample cheese case stocked with local dairies such as Firefly Farms, Cherry Glen Farm, Blue Ridge Dairy and Caprikorn Farms.
And rounding out our cheese retail news, several locals are among the first class of ACS Certified Cheese Professionals, including Katie Carter of Arrowine, Rachel Perlstein of Whole Foods Foggy Bottom and Anedina Canzian from Whole Foods Mt. Washington (MD). Check out the full list of CCPs here.
